Gazing Balls

Gazing balls or gazing globes have been a feature of gardens since the 13th century when some believed they had mystical or magical powers. At a time when plagues were rife, people believed that garden balls or garden globes could ward off evil spirits and disease. It was even believed that they would prevent attack, scare away ghosts and keep witches at bay. Placing a gazing ball near to a property entrance was thought to scare away witches when they saw their own reflections.

The convex reflective surface of many gazing balls means that they can be strategically placed to improve visibility around a garden. Many people believe that steel gazing balls improve the health of a garden by attracting nitrogen which is good for plants. Gazing balls and globes, often mounted on attractive stands, will add a wonderful aesthetic feature to any garden or outdoor space.
