Bulbs – Tulips, Daffodils, Lillies and More

If you love to see fantastic displays of flowers in your garden and containers then bulbs are for you. Planting daffodil, tulip and other bulbs at the right time of year will guarantee a fantastic display.

Importantly, bulbs are not difficult to grow. For spring flowering bulbs such as daffodils, hyacinths and crocus you should be planting your bulbs by the end of September.

For your hardy summer-flowering bulbs such as alliums, crocosmia dn lillies you need to plant these bulbs over September and October. And for a wonderful display of Tulips, November is the month to plant your bulbs.

Bulbs are generally planted when in their dormant state. Planting at any other times will affect plant growth. For a fantastic display always plant in groups of at least 5. For a wonderful border display you will  need between around 50 and 100 bulbs.

Most bulbs are ideal for growing in containers. Tulips, lillies and alliums are particularly good in containers. Remember to regularly feed all pot grown bulbs to give them the best chance of flowering strongly.
